Default MiLB.com Top 100 Released

MiLB releases 2014 top 100. Two from our system make the list, Eric Johnson at #70 and Matt Davidson at #80.

It is of little surprise to me that with Jim Callis now running the show, Cub prospects are elevated to undeserving levels. He is unquestionably the least objective talent evaluator of all the major sites.

March 16, 2005 - Another happy Sox fan joins the party!
July 6, 2012 - 7 years later he's still part of it...

Billy Hamilton is a really interesting player. You just wonder if he'll get on base enough to use his tremendous base running ability. Even so, he didn't hit well at AAA and still managed 75 SB in 123 games.

Yeah I am a little surprised to see no Abreu, not sure how they evaluate him.

Semien is still a fringe-y prospect. Not that shocking of a call.

I wonder if Eaton still qualifies? Guy has 88 games and 380 plate appearances of MLB experience and over a year of service time now. He may not qualify as a "prospect."

I'm guessing Abreu doesn't qualify, as a nearly 27-year old international free agent who signed a huge contract.

I'm a bit surprised that Baez is so high at 7, and Springer with the monster year he had last season is so low at 21.

Yeah I think I saw a tweet yesterday in which Callis explained how he was ineligible for the rankings, but he would have been 3rd among 1B prospects. He didn't mention where that would fit in the top 100, but if you look up the 3rd and 4th 1B in the top 100, he'd be in between there.

Makes no sense to exclude Abreu if you include Jorge Soler (#49).

Unless I am completely missing something, I only see one 1B prospect on the overall Top 100, Singleton at No. 50.

You appear to be correct.

Sure it does. Abreu is nearly 27, a finished product and going right to the bigs. Soler is 21 and still developing, and by definition is still a prospect.

He's a Cub, Jim Callis is there, no surprise. Let the overrating that he was notorious for at BA continue.

It appears that Abreu wouldn't have made the cut anyway, if he would have been the 3rd overall 1B prospect, since #2 didn't make it, either

That's interesting, and probably means he is underrated, along with the #2 1B. First base is where you put prodigious hitters if they can't field; the HoF is chockablock with first basemen, as are the lists of major award winners. If there is only one 1B prospect on the list, something is wrong with the list.

The Cub factor might have played into it.

Age? I doubt it. Ichiro won rookie of the year. Until a Cuban or other international free agent plays in the bugs, he's a prospect.

Then Tanaka should be on there, too.
