The White Sox spent nearly half what the Yankees did on Tanaka on an arguably much bigger risk who also has zero MLB experience.

Of course a pitcher is riskier, just saying that I've read a bit of backlash against Tanaka here saying that he's not a good signing because he has zero MLB experience. Neither does Abreu. And NPB is closer (in quality, not geography) to MLB than is the Cuban league.
