Japanese pitcher Tanaka is coming to MLB for any team willing to pay a $20 million posting fee + whatever his salary ends up being. He went 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA in Japan last season.

Cubs, Yankees, a few other teams said to be interested. Yankee fans seem to be really excited about this guy.
I bet there will be at least 3 to 4 teams willing to post the $20 million fee and offer an average of $10 million+ per year. My guess is he'll end up with the Yankees or the Cubs. with the Yankees offering far more than anyone else.

Dodgers sign manager Don Mattingly to a contract extenstion

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/s...ngeles-dodgers

Rumor is it is a 2-year extension on top of his current deal which would have expired at the end of the 2014 season.

Interesting they announce this a few hours after their beat writer's HOF ballot became public.

Jon Heyman

Tanaka derby begins in earnest w/ meetings: cubs, white sox, dodgers, angels, yanks, dbacks said in. http://cbsprt.co/1ffYSmo

Tanaka was originally planning on flying into Chicago, but an NL official tells Waldstein that weather caused him to fly into Los Angeles instead.

Yankees DFA Vernon Wells, who is owed $21 million this season, though the lion's share of that money is coming from LAAAA (approximately $18 M).

The Yankees still need to clear room on their 40-man roster for acquired-but-not-yet-officially-announced free agent acquisitions Matt Thornton and Brian Roberts.

If that's the case, the Sox should definitely sign him.

I just saw that Derek Holland is out until at least midseason.

According to this article, the Rangers do not want to sign one of the remaining free agent starters. I wonder if they have any interest in their former farmhand, John Danks.

Mariners signed John Buck today. There goes signing even a low grade stopgap at catcher.

His free-swinging ways would have fit right in.

I can't believe any fan would ever have a frowny face after their team didn't sign John Buck.

The drop off after Buck in the market makes Tyler Flowers the most attractive option for our roster next season. Bats/gloves like that are what caused us to be SO tremendously bad last year. Right now we're penciling Viciedo and Flowers into our lineup. Might as well pencil in 90 losses too. They have negative value, and they're going to get the bulk of the playing time.

If John Buck can catch the ball semi-consistently he would be a vast improvement over Flowers.

John Buck is Tyler Flowers, good power, lots of strikeouts, won't hit for average, shaky defense. Only real difference is Buck is more expensive.
