As a matter of fact, it was my excitement over the Sox pursuit of Tadahito Iguchi, and my searching for any kind of news or information about him, that led me to stumble upon WSI in the first place! Ah, good times...

That's a bit different than putting up a posting price.

Interestingly, under the new rules, the $20 million posting fee is paid over two seasons.

And a team does not have to pay the posting fee unless they sign the player.

I don't know if the Sox will sign Tanaka but I am pretty confident that it won't be the posting fee that stops them if they don't sign him.

You know it's time to go for it when Scott Downs is in the Best Shape of His Life!

Appreciate the clarification. Take the gamble, Sox! I'll be shocked, maybe the most since the Belle signing (well, except for the WS, of course!), if that happens.

Sale, Tanaka, Ace from 2013 draft would be an incredible 1,2,3. I am going to assume this will happen until I learn otherwise.

Sign him, as long as it doesn't spur the front office to start dumping young players to overpay for mediocre veterans to surround him with.

I can't imagine it would. He is 25, I believe. Right in line with the rest of the rebuilding process.

If the Sox would miraculously sign Tanaka, I doubt they would trade the young talent they recently got. Mainly because the veterans they would get in return would be making big bucks.

Also, Tanaka is 25. He's younger than Abreu.

Might as well, lol.

Seems like the Sox should have the resources if they are so inclined. If you're going to spend big, rather go with a 25 year old potential ace. If guys like Ellsbury are going to be making 20+ mil through age 38, signing Tanaka would be a steal, relatively speaking.

IF the Sox were to sign Tanaka, Dave Kraplan's head would explode, but apparently the Sox are talking to Tanaka.

Does he not want to come here because he believes it is too cold and he will be shot?

This actually does make sense. The rotation would be DEEP!
It does seem like the Sox have the money especially if Danks has a good season
and gets traded after the season

That's not the young talent I'm talking about. that young talent was received in return for young talent we had.
We still need a minor league system. The good ones have twice the prospects we have. Don't deplete it for declining veterans.
