Sorry to see Ed leave us. Loved watching him as a kid, and even took a picture with him at a Sox banquet when I was about six. About 10 years ago, I met him again at an autograph signing and he was extremely personable and enjoyed talking about Dick Allen.

I started my Sox fandom in 1969 and the first group of players will always be heroes to me. The teams had some awful years but they were my team in a time that the city was Cub Crazy.

Melton, Peters, Wood, John, Horlen, May, Williams, Allen. Gossage, Forster. I think Ed is the first significant payer from that era to die.

Sup-Hermann!!

Duane Josephson who was also from that era and played with the Sox from 1965 through 1970 died from a heart attack in 1997 at age 54.

I'll never forget when Ed blocked the plate on Bert Campaneris trying to score. Ed's pants were ripped to shreds from Campy's spikes but he stood his ground and held on to the ball preventing him from scoring.

RIP Ed.
