Yeah but honestly how much of a difference is it if you swap out Reinzo for Santiago?

The guy is the 2nd coming of Clayton Richard, nice to have around, is somewhat valuable if used properly, but you want to trade him before he's exposed at this level.

I like the move and it fits the mantra of "transition to a younger core". I was a fan of Santiago and wish him well but you had to deal from a position of depth to fill the black holes on the diamond. Eaton is a left handed hitter, has a high OBP, and should be a defensive upgrade over De Aza in CF.

As a previous poster pointed out, I would have to assume De Aza or Viciedo are being made available via trade. Perhaps they use one of them to try for a catcher upgrade.

I would not exactly be shocked if the Sox acquired a back-end starter.

Looking a lot more interesting than last season. I wonder if Rienzo will now get a shot at the rotation.

Once Dunn is gone it will look even better.
I expect either Viciedo or, more likely, De Aza to be moved now. With Konerko on the bench, the Sox would have a lot more versatility if they had a utility guy who can play both the IF and OF. Maybe Elmore is that guy.

We think the players are mediocre until they are traded, and then all of a sudden they are invaluable assets and overvalued. I think this was a great deal. A young cost controlled CF'er that may be primed to break out? Yes please.

Seems like a good move. Hate to lose Santiago, but "younger and more athletic" have to be our words to live by. Hopefully, this ends the De Aza era.

Yeah, exactly, not to mention the Sox have a couple young arms that are on the brink of the Majors that I like a lot, too, like Beck, Snodgress, and Bassit. Much more comfortable with their recent track record of developing arms than I am waiting to see if Jordan Danks will ever figure it out (he won't), Jared Mitchell will ever discover a time machine to take him back to a time when he didn't have a surgically reconstructed leg, or praying that Thompson or Jacobs might be a winner.

Trade from strength to address weakness. Hopefully Eaton plays well here and I don't have people referencing this deal in like 5 years.

Like I said before his screw ball just wasnt the same as in the minors maybe it is the seams or maybe its mlb hitters. He could turn out to be nothing but I just hate to see pitching to be traded unless you have an abundance of it.

Richard was traded for proven pitching, if Santiago was then I would be ok with this.

The Sox need so much so they have to roll the dice on Reinzo and Johnson.

Im not saying this is a bad deal, its a crap shoot and thats all the Sox can do in situation they are in, hopefully they will roll 7's not snake eyes.

We overpaid for Eaton. Jury is still out on him and he's an unproven commodity. We gave up Santiago who is a good young pitcher under team control for a few more years.

Should've gotten more than just Eaton and a PTBNL.

He currently has 1 year and 30 days of MLB service time, which would make him eligible for arbitration after the 2015 season and not eligible for free agency until after the 2018 season.
