The value in trading Keppinger is trading Keppinger.

CF De Aza

Is this how we currently stand? Can Elmore really play center, or can Avisail realistically cover it to give De Aza days off? Are Danks and L Garcia starting the season in Charlotte? I'm assuming Semien won't be starting the season with the club.

Are they considering an 11 man staff?
And this is what I'm trying to explain. If Semian is in Charlotte due to Konerko being here that is taking AB's from the kid

Dunns going over 500 and then some. It really isn't all that much of a stretch. Konerko will be looking on the outside in.

He won't get in, but how many clean players are in the 500 HR club and not in the HOF?

That's what I'm trying to say. It basically comes down to this. In a pinch hit situation and you need baserunners. Who would stand the better chance of reaching base? Konerko, based on last years stats? L Garcia slap hitter with speedy and can come in late in games and play some OF? Semian, Who bats RH speed, can steal you a base late in a game, can bunt? IMO I'd rather have the young fresher legs available on the bench who barely has warning track power.

For the last ****ing time, Semien is not going to be in Charlotte because of Konerko.

If they want Semien to start the season in Chicago, they will trade one of Beckham, Ramirez or Gillaspie to open a starting job for him.

It does Semien no good to sit on the bench in Chicago. He'll either go back to Charlotte to get his ABs and play every day, or they will make room for him to start in the big-league infield.

This would be the case even if Konerko was not on the team. Even a third-grader should be able to understand this concept. I don't think I can spell it out any clearer.

Konerko.

Unless this is an alternate universe, I don't know how L. Garcia and his .198 career batting average is a better pinch-hitting option than Konerko, even in Paul's declining state.

L. Garcia is your pinch-runner, not your pinch-hitter.

And, if Semien is in a bench role in Chicago, somebody needs to be fired. You let him play every day, either with the Sox or with Charlotte, and see if he can build upon the steps forward he took last year.

And, once again, Semien's status is not affected at all by the Konerko signing. They don't play the same position, and Konerko is now a bench player, not a starter. Semien is a starter, not a bench player. It's just a matter of what level Semien will be starting at, the majors or AAA.

None, at least not among those who are currently eligible. He'll be the first if he gets to 500. Adam Dunn is a left-handed Dave Kingman, basically.

Question, what is Paulie's motivation to return? The money, the fame, improving his stats. Paulie has accepted a diminished roll to mentor and help off the bench. Why can't we simply solve this controversy for what has been said by those making the decision. The expectations for this team are low, but I believe they can be much more competitive than last year. I know that is not saying much. If Paulie is contributing as his roll is defined, and the team is playing relatively well. Great. However, If we are dead in the water by all star break, I'm sure he would gracefully retire.

Just back from a cruise and just saw this and am not excited about it nor depressed about it. The die hard Sox fan in me is hoping for some kind of miracle year from Paulie but my brain is still working pretty good and says we will probably see a repeat of 2013 with PK.

That's the thing, though...Gillaspie is probably best suited to a utility role, and there's really no reason to trade him. Who would you rather have on the bench at this point, Gillaspie or Konerko? Heck, if you give Semien the starting job at 2b you could platoon Beckham and Gillaspie, and who do we have to step in for Ramirez. Makes no sense to trade any of those guys just to keep Konerko on the roster.

Ive been thinking about this and if Paul was told he was going to get actual playing time he would have wanted an incentive contract. So to me that means Dunns going nowhere and Paul will PH or give Dunn an occasional day off.

Another possibility that occurred to me is they just gave him this contract so he could retire as a signed employee of the Sox.
