Paying extra for a mentor is all fine and good. A team that's getting younger will need some form of veteran leadership, so keeping him around is a good thing. If his injuries are kept in check, he can produce against lefties.

As crazy as it sounds, Dunn has actually had a better career.

Does anyone trust Ventura to use him in such a role? Because I sure don't.

Love PK and have since he joined the team. I can't be mad about the move until Abreu starts losing playing time because of it.

Bold prediction time! Konerko will have something of a comeback season at age 38, hitting a respectable .280, with 25 HR and knocking in 90+.

I don't understand why people are so upset with this. I didn't care to see Konerko back either, but who honestly thought we were competing in 2014 anyway? As long as he's not in the everyday lineup and it's a cheap contract, he could be paid merely to sign autographs for all I care. Plus, it'll be nice to see a franchise legend helping Abreu transition into a big-league player and hopefully, the same guy we've seen at first base for over a decade (with more speed, God willing).

![]() That's how you determined the season was over? Not the crappy lineup, lack of bullpen arms or no prospects ready to make the move to the big league club? Keeping Ventura is what is going to keep this team from competing next year. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. |

That poster has been known to be a little melodramatic, but Ventura was pretty lousy last season

The 2014 slogan is clearly going to be '**** it'.

I understand that, but this team isn't going to compete next year with or without Ventura. Just seems like a stupid gripe to have coupled with unrealistic expectations.

GMAB. He made a joke relating to Paulie's lack of success last season. No need to read more into it.

Pretty much. Plus, it must have been cheaper than picking up the same kind of player elsewhere. JR knows Paulie has his back and vice versa, so he would have come cheap regardless.
