Like all Yankee contracts, I love the Elsbury deal for the first three years. By the time it's a bad contract, they will get one off the books and be ready to add another one.

Something is not right on the Saltalamacchia deal. Hes making 2+M less next year than A.J and then 7M and 8M. I read that the 2 kid catchers in the boston minors wont be ready for 2 years. The more I think about this Saltalamacchia is injured goods.

Ellsbury is already 30 and has had a history of injuries, am I the only one who thinks that this will be like the Crawford deal?

When deals like this involve the yanks, it never hamstrings them so it doesnt matter.

I, too, am happy that the White Sox didn't sign him.

Well, they had an opening at first for the first time since 1998, when Helton took over from The Big Cat.

The something not right is Saltalamacchia at catcher. He's not very good.

Yeah, but he's only a 1-year stopgap. By the way, Salty's getting 3 years, $21 M... What did people think he was going to get?

Also, AJ is left-handed, can occasionally hit the ball, and is durable. Saltalamacchia has never played more than 121 games in a season. The last time AJ he didn't reach that number was 2001.

This offseason thus far makes me cry as a Sox fan. Trade somebody and get some prospects, damnit.

I don't get the Ellsbury deal. He's a quality player, but basically he's a .280/.340/.400 hitter. 20 some odd million dollars a year is ridiculous.
