Default 2014 Contract Obligations and Arbitration Eligible Players, also Released/non-tenders

Hey guys,

Anyway we can get a list going on contract obligations who's staying who's going? Or who's gone already.

Also hopefully we can sticky this and continue adding to it.

Thanks a lot!
I'm excited to see how Hahn handles this offseason, looks to be interesting. A ton of decisions.

One problem with that spreadsheet - Viciedo isn't going to his first arb until next offseason.

He will get a decent bump in salary, though, surely over $3M.

Here's last year's numbers for example so you can fill in some of the blanks:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...Gc&output=html

If Beckham goes to arb, he'll get well over his last year's figure of $2,925,000
Also, De Aza will get a bump up on his 2013 salary of $2,075,000

So if we keep all three, the total payroll would be up to around $70-75M.
Adding in the near minimum players to make up a 25 man roster, we're at $75-85M.

I'd think that leaves room for another mid-tier FA signing.

What are the rules in regards to Arbitration 1-2-3.....I know its 1-2-3 in a sense of years but how about those listed at pre-arb?

What does PRE-ARB mean? Is it usually 1yr/650k ?

Each player gets 3 arbitration years before he becomes a free agent, except for super-two, which a few players get to arbitration early and have 4 arbitration years.

It's basically a count, but each year is a potential for a substantial raise, especially if a player has a really good season. Most players come to an agreement for the Arb year contract before there is a hearing.

Pre-Arb is during player's first 3 big league offseasons. Pre-Arb players are tendered a contract with a small raise either before or during spring training.

Russ did a pretty good job explaining them, pre-arb years the player is basically at the mercy of the team, I don't know how many rights players have in pre-arb years other than some very moderate pay minimums.

For example, Beckham's 3 pre-arb seasons, his salary was:

2010: $445,000
2011: $485,000
2012: $520,000

Time is based on "service time." Basically, everyday that a player is on his team's 25-man, active roster counts as 1 day of service. A full MLB season is 180 days. This is why some teams choose to not bring up and coming blue chip prospects right away, to postpone their service clock from starting.

Thanks guys

So IT'S safe to assume almost all pre-ard guys are coming back with a small raise?

I think so because we need guys to fill out our roster. Maybe you lose a guy here or trade a guy there, but we need guys to field a team. If PK doesn't come back, it's easy to slot Abreu in there as an even exchange.

For example, if we don't sign a new catcher in FA, you can guess that we'll be paying both Phegley or Flowers smaill raises.

And Gimenez signed to a minor-league deal. Phegley/Flowers/Gimenez again?
