Dunn isn't entirely worthless. He's just not worth anywhere near $15 million. |

This would just make us worse. There's no legitimate reason to do it.

The team won't be fully "legit" for a couple of years. Let's tinker further: SS Ramirez CF De Aza RF Garcia LF Abreu DH Konerko 1B Dunn 3B Viciedo 2B Beckham C Phegley Play around with L. Garcia and maybe a good free agent to bolster the lineup and boom it's 2003 again: CF Everett SS Valentin DH Thomas RF Ordonez 1B Konerko LF Lee 3B Crede 2B Jimenez C Olivo Last edited by balke; 11-16-2013 at 01:00 PM. |

How could we possibly even consider making this defense worse. I get ill thinking of De Aza in CF again; and if we add Dunn...there's absolutely no reason we should do that or have to to that. Just go sign Chris YOung or someone for a year or 2...won't cost much. And it's not like we have THAT much time to fix this. We just signed a FA first baseman. Sale is in his prime. We can't dick around for too long. We need to make upward progress this season. Playing Dunn in LF so we can "honor" Konerko is counterproductive. Sign Salty, make some minor moves to get a CF and maybe a 3B in here. Bring in a reliever. Try to dump Dunn; maybe move Beckham (probably still has some value); try to get something for Alexei. Listen on everyone, but don't automatically trade a pitcher because we may have one in excess and certainly don't give away Santiago. De Aza and Viciedo playing LF and doing some DH will work...won't hurt actually having a hitter on the bench for a change. |

No, it is like that. Or rather, it is EXACTLY that. Yeah, we've got one piece. But baseball is a team game where you need 22 -25 legitimate pieces, 10 - 15 at a very high level (depending on how good those top ones are). On top of that, there's very little in line of upcoming talent in the next few years. Depending on personal opinion, there are anywhere from 2 to 7 legitimate pieces on this squad for next year. Not only do we have THAT much to fix, we have more to fix than pretty much any other squad in baseball (considering the sad state of both our major league roster and our minor league system). We've made some good moves this off-season, but lets not act like we're not in line for another 90 loss season.

While I don't see a playoff run pending in 2014, I could see them around .500. And, even if they do lose 90+ again by virtue of some of the moves they've made last year and during the offseason I think it would still be a higher quality 90 losses. They're trending in the right direction.

Rankings of AL DHs- has the 2013 White Sox as ranked #12 (only Yankees, Twins and Orioles behind them). Very limited market for Dunn- if he has a stong spring training/start to the regular season- and an AL contender gets hit with injuries- could create a market. I think Sox will need to eat about $10M- to get any takers-

![]() 220 hrs in 2003. If I had to guess 2014 HR output with regular play: Ramirez: 12 De Aza: 15 Dunn: 34 Konerko: 28 Garcia: 22 Abreu: 28 Beckham: 10 Viciedo: 22 Phegley: 9 That's 180. If the bench can produce 30 homeruns they are at 210 which ain't bad. (212 was the highest team hr total for 2013. Baltimore) Last edited by balke; 11-16-2013 at 03:28 PM. |

There aren't enough ABs to go around for Dunn/PK/Abreu to produce at that level- if PK is back up- put him down for 10-

My thinking is it's all about listening to his body. If he doesn't think he can hit close to that, he won't come back. If he's healthy enough to give it a shot, I would think he'll put on a show for the fans and hit at least that many.

Unfortunately, I think there are many examples of players who don't know when to hang it up. I can't blame a guy for wanting to keep on playing the game he's played all his life, but I can blame the team for bringing him back when he most likely has nothing left. He might want to put on a show for the fans, but that doesn't mean he has the ability to. |
