I've spent years begging for us to take a good catching prospect in the draft, but we continue to ignore that deficiency. We have two back-up quality guys and should keep one. No reason to keep Flowers if Phegley is doing better.
I want us to explore Alexei-Freese deals because it could help each team, and we could use the salary savings and give Garcia a shot there to show what he has.
Freese is coming off a down year, though, and he's gonna be 31. I'd be wary of acquiring him. It is true that his down year was still better than what the Sox had at 3B, but if the team is going to deal Alexei, I'd rather trade for a piece(s) that might provide a more long-term solution somewhere on the diamond.
