Exactly it was a bad year for Sox defense. When you go position by position there was no one else to give it to. Maybe Rios, but he wasn't on the team at the end of the year.

Nobody is close to deserving such an award.

I know people are disgusted with the 2013 season, but I think this is an exaggeration. Gordon Beckham is a very good second baseman. The 1970 White Sox, the standard for franchise futility, had a worse defensive season than the 2013 White Sox. The 1970 team gave up about 100 more runs overall and 20 more unearned runs. The 1970 team gave up 100 unearned, but the stats don't really do justice in describing the bad baseball.

Yet, two regulars won Gold Gloves that year. Aparicio won one that year, and it wasn't an automatic thing because of his reputation. Belanger won it the previous and next year. Chuck Brinkman's brother and future Sox manager Fregosi also were in the league at the time and have Gold Gloves in their resumes.

That also was the first Gold Glove year for Ken Berry, although he did drop a fly ball, fortunately into the glove of the right fielder, the fly ball being so routine that the right fielder was close enough to catch it before it hit the ground.

Funny that in the off-season, the White Sox, the worst defensive team in baseball, improved historically by trading their two Gold Glove winners.

This isn't a big award for Beckham, certainly not a Gold Gove. It is what it is and it really isn't undeserved.

I'd call him a good second baseman. Very good, in my opinion, is a stretch.

Was this award an ironic award like the Razzies?

Where's that gif of him running in and tripping on the pitchers mound?

Let's see, should I choose STD or erectile dysfunction?

Joking aside, I agree there was really no other choice.
