In other words, he got off to a surprisingly fast start and showed his likely true colors eventually. He hit .206/.223/.299 for the season. That is atrocious. And he doesn't offer the kind of good defense that a backup catcher should bring. I'm just not sure what he really brings to the plate, or behind it, that are a net positive for the team. I won't really care that much if he's the backup C in 2014, but I'd be very disappointed if he's the everyday starter. I seriously doubt he is any kind of long-term (or even medium-term) solution, and the Sox should prepare accordingly.

I'm just saying I don't feel he's as bad as people make him out or that he showed last year Everyone was miserable. Again if they sign a guy like Soto to bridge them I wouldn't mind at all. Flowers I think we have seen enough of.

What is the Story between A.J and the Sox pitchers that seemed to have burned bridges?

Well, I don't there's a communicative disease of suckiness that drew all out of the talent out of Phegley, or anyone else on the team. I just think the players the Sox had in 2013 weren't good enough, Phegley (and Flowers) included.

Save for a fluke 1st half to the 2013 season, Phegley's generally been bad at every stop on his professional career. This isn't the case of a star prospect (or ****, even a medium prospect) struggling to adjust to life in the Majors. This is a bad player being bad.

I'm not sure there is much of a story. AJ has and always will be a douchebag. It's just something that players put up with as his teammate.

Wasn't there a story floating around that AJ wasn't calling as many breaking balls as the pitchers wanted because he couldn't get to them when they were in the dirt. This was one of the reasons Peavy wanted to pitch to Flowers exclusively, supposedly (or allegedly).

I would say not, to answer the question.

I would agree that, except I really can't say that Phegley is actually any better than Flowers.

According to mlb.com, Texas has re-signed Soto to a new contract.

Damn, Geovany Soto won't be a White Sox? Say it ain't so.

In my heart of hearts, I would, however, like to see Texas' other catcher from last season somehow end up back on the South Side.
