In other words, he got off to a surprisingly fast start and showed his likely true colors eventually. He hit .206/.223/.299 for the season. That is atrocious. And he doesn't offer the kind of good defense that a backup catcher should bring. I'm just not sure what he really brings to the plate, or behind it, that are a net positive for the team. I won't really care that much if he's the backup C in 2014, but I'd be very disappointed if he's the everyday starter. I seriously doubt he is any kind of long-term (or even medium-term) solution, and the Sox should prepare accordingly.
