A.J. was very good on-air in the playoffs. I think his confidence and personality makes him perfect for the booth. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him somewhere on the air very soon after his playing career.

Why not invite him back if cheap.
By now the fans and his teammates are probably tired of him.
His only real home is Chicago.

A new catcher must be acquired.

Rank the catchers in order of preference based on consensus requirements (Length of contract, AAV, ability, age, etc.)

If AJ is the best they can get, sign him. If they can get somebody better, sign them. Leave any emotions out of it. I'd love to have him back, but I'd rather have one of the better options.

There was some talk about Fox wanting AJ to take McCarver's spot next year. If AJ was offered that, I think he would have to think about it. It's a job that could pay him for the next 30 years to basically work 1 day a week until the playoffs. If he came back to play, that job may not be available to him next year or the year after.

My dream would be a mega deal with the Rockies for Gonzalez and Rosario.

Ah...but if he comes back here to play, he could take over for Hawk and be just as insane.

Even though you qualified the statement as a dream, it's still such a dream that it requires deep pink.

While we try to act like the answer is this simple, the answer is not as simple as "Who else would you rather have?"

You have to rank them on two different scenarios:

- Sox make themselves, with the rest of the roster, good enough to compete

- Sox don't, like 2013

If it's the former and other holes are adequately filled, sure, why not pursue him. If the latter, no way. You don't just go get an aging player because he's the only thing available if you are not trying to really compete. In that case, better off throwing $1.5 million to Soto.

Wouldn't mind an AJ/Phegley platoon at catcher- sign him for 2 yrs- moves to the booth when he's done-

Fact: he signed a one year deal for $7 Mil

Seems to be more than one fact there if I'm not mistaken.

Also, I haven't made a point. I asked a question. I'd be interested in knowing if someone offered him more money. The only fact for me is, I don't know for sure why AJ signed with Texas, and neither do you. Maybe it was because they were a contender. Maybe it was for the money. I haven't had the chance to ask him.
AJ signed with Texas on December 20th, which is pretty late in the offseason for a free agent. There was marginal interest in AJ, to the point were articles were being written pondering the possible reasons. The Yankees kicked the tires but were weary of his defense. He got shockingly very little attention. Texas came in late and signed him, and it is accurate to say that Texas offered the highest salary. They may have made the only offer to him.

By the way, I'd love to see him come back just because we are now lost at that position. But, I hope he makes as much as he can wherever he goes. The dude took $2 million in 2011 to come back to the Sox (after they signed Dunn and re-signed Konerko, who also took deferred money). Even though he made $6 mil in 2012, the 2011 pay cut was substantial compared to what he had been making the previous five seasons.

I'd rather they draft and develop a decent catcher. Is that too much to ask?

Sure, he can come back and replace Robin.

Maybe even *more* qualified - I mean, he is currently a pregame analyst for the World Series!

No thank you. It's time to move on folks. It might take some trial and error, but in Rick Hahn I trust. He will find someone.
