Default Sale for Cy Young?

Szymborski argues he's the clear cut pick by the numbers. Insider required.

In a rational world, but he doesn't have TWTW.

Well...he actually addresses that in the article. Sale leads the league in complete games and quality starts, and his OPS allowed actually LOWERS in high leverage late game situations. Sale indeed has TWTW!

Actually I think he has it more than almost any other pitcher in the league.

He's probably going to be lucky to make top 3 because of his W-L total, and yes, I know that King Felix won one recently with a bad W-L, but he was/is a much more high profile pitcher than Sale is right now.

King Felix is right there as far as non-W/L stats go and will probably get it.

WSI tells me that is a bad thing. He throws too many innings.

He's 12-9 and hasn't made a start since September 2.

Sale is our ace and having a great season, but no. Scherzer has the sexier numbers and is the best pitcher on a team that will be division champions.

The article points out that other than win-lose record, nothing about Scherzer would even put him in the argument. He's probably having like the 4th best season, by the numbers.

20 wins is like cruise control for Cy Young.

And, as usual, someone is making the same argument, providing the same information, and writing the same article as ESPN Insider, and letting people read it for free.

Not always, Sabathia had 21 wins when Hernandez won the Cy.

Sabathia's ERA was nearly a full run worse than Felix's. That's not the case with Scherzer/Sale.
