Dan Hayes
Leury Garcia has been promoted to the #WhiteSox. Here's a little more about the move. http://bit.ly/150iMGE

Interesting. I didn't know he could also play outfield. Even if his bat doesn't come around to everyday player levels, his speed and defensive versatility could be valuable off the bench.

Game Notes

Prior to tonight’s game, the White Sox recalled OF Leury (“lay-OOH-ree) Garcia from Class AAA Charlotte

It seems like he is a streaky hitter. If he can hit .270 with a glove and speed he is okay with me.

Greatest Arsenal goal I have ever witnessed. Chills to this day watching it.

I'm not sure how raw a kid is who has 6 years and over 2,000 plate appearances of minor league experience, not to mention, he's already played in the Majors for the Rangers.

I don't know if he's "raw" but he is still only 22 so I wouldn't write him off. I know the knock on him is that he strikes out a lot and struggles to make contact but if he can play defense as well as is billed, I think he can be a useful player.

Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, especially if he can play a little OF as billed then he's an extremely valuable player to have around, it's just that after 6 seasons of professional ball, the cone of uncertainty regarding a player has diminished greatly; Garcia looks like a starter on a bad team and a utilityman on a good team. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm not sure. I would agree with you but at the same time I wouldn't completely write off a guy who is only 22, I know he has been playing for six years but he was 17 when he started, it's not like he was drafted out of college. He could turn out to be like Omar Vizquel (which is a stretch, I know) but if he were able to put up numbers like Ozzie Guillen (.26-.270 average, .300 something OBP) with solid defense and base running, I think he'd be a good number nine hitter on a lot of teams.

Quite the range you've laid out there, Vizquel, arguably one of the greatest shortstops in baseball history and Ozzie, arguably one of the worst players in baseball history.

"Arguably" to the person who wrote that article. Ozzie was no HOFer by any means, but I really doubt he was one of the worst 100 players in history.

Agreed, Bill James always loved Ozzie and thought he contributed to a lot of things that couldn't be measured. Before he tore up his knee Ozzie was considered to be one of the better defensive shortstops in the league. Oh and he was a three time all star and a gold glove winner. Of course if all you're looking at is offensive numbers then Ozzie was pretty bad and Leury might be up there too but if you consider there to be other aspects to baseball besides offense, then Ozzie and possibly Leury can offer key contributions.
