Because the team hesitated in bringing Phegley up, they don't know at this point whether he is a ML catcher or not. But early indications are he needs to improve defensively and we pretty much know Flowers is weak both offensively and on defense. Hahn probably has to wait till the offseason to determine what he does for the future.
If we are minus guys like Rios and Peavy next year due to trades, lose Konerko to retirement, and then Crain to trade (likely) or FA, I think we'll be more in the boat of Phegley and Flowers handling the plate in 2014. After that, maybe we can bet someone in FA for 2015 if neither of those guys can handle it and nobody comes up from the farm.
2014 is looking like we'll see some extended time for fringe MLB guys in the minors get a shot, ex. Jordan Danks in the OF.
