I had not been paying attention to the NL West. They're almost as bad as we are....almost.

They're only 6 games back, plus no way is that team selling right now. Only exception there is Ethier, if anyone is willing to take him.

Yeah but the whole NL West has been pretty underwhelming, a lot of pretty vicious winning and losing streaks for most of the teams already.

I would be surprised to see the Dodgers go in full sell mode, but that doesn't mean I think they will be buyers, either. Except for the aforementioned Ethier.

They have almost unlimited payroll. They can be buyers if they want to.

They're 5.5 out in a mediocre division. Don't count on it.

So for those in the know, who are some of the names we can look forward to in the '14 draft? As is stands now, the Sox would have the third pick and are not very far off the first. I doubt they'll lose enough to overtake the Marlins, but it's pretty likely they'll at worst be in the top 5. I suppose it's too much to hope for a Harper type. I have read that it will be a deep draft, so even if they are later in the top 10, they should be able to get somebody good. I want a position player, even though it would be hard to pass on an Ace.

It is supposed to be a banner year for pitchers, middle infielders and catchers.

It's more personal expectation. I think the Dodgers are pretty bad, and will continue their pace (meaning by the time it's decision time, the decision will likely be to fold because they'll fall further back).

Well, they're hot right now, but at 4 games under, last place, and with a -46 run differential, I don't see how you can say "probably", IMHO.

They're a regressing team with injury issues. Yeah, they've got good top end pitching, but other than Colorado so does the rest of that division.

Dodgers management isn't baseball-smart anymore, and they doesn't have the mentality to be sellers. (It's funny how having money to spend can make some teams dumber.) I wouldn't be surprised to see the Dodgers make trades. I would be more surprised if they don't. They have some surplus, even veteran surplus. I would be surprised to see the Dodgers trading non-surplus for prospects.

Default Steve Stone

I very rarely watch Sports Talk Live hosted by Dave Kaplan. Kaplan is a Cubs fan and basically ignores the White Sox, so I simply don't watch the show. I was channel surfing last night and saw Steve Stone on the show and I watched him. Stone mentioned the Cubs trade with the Orioles and how good of a trade it was for the Cubs. He then mentioned how much easier it will be for Epstein /Hoyer to build the Cubs than it will be for Rick Hahn and the White Sox. Stone said that the Cubs will have more money to deal with than Hahn will. He than said that this White Sox team just doesn't draw enough fans. He said last years team was in first place and didn't draw 2 million fans. It was obvious by his comments that he's not exactly happy being here with the White Sox. That being the case maybe he should leave his job with the White Sox. I have news for him, at his age I seriously doubt that another team would hire him. But still, if he doesn't like it here I wish he would just leave, the sooner the better.
