If Jon Garland had never played for the Sox, this thread would not exist, as we would not care about a garbage starter.

Seriously. He was a solid #4 starter for the Sox except in 2005 which was really his only "great" year. If it weren't for the Sox bats in 2006 he probably would have finished right at or below .500.

Nothing against Jon personally but the Sox basically have him in Dylan Axelrod right now.

All true, but the guy came through in the biggest game of his career and kept the momentum going (game 3 of the ALCS). That is my fondest memory of Garland, moreso than any of his struggles during the Manuel era.

I was frustrated Jon Garland wasn't more successful when he was with the Sox since I always wanted to use him in defense whenever Cub fans brought up the Sammy Sosa for George Bell trade.

Oh he definitely shined in the 05 postseason and I'm very happy for that. I'm just saying he's not some elite pitcher that the Sox let get away.

I've never been embarrassed by the fact that George Bell played for the Sox.

Peavy's contract is favorable, they knew he was an injury risk, never expected him to win a Cy, and he's been generally fine.
