Default U.S. Cellular name change in future?

With U.S. Cellular being bought out by Sprint, which includes the Chicago area, will we see a name change at the ballpark?

Just wondering.

No. The name deal runs until 2023 anyway.

I would think we'd see a name change eventually. Would it make sense to have a ballpark named after a company that is essentially defunct in Chicagoland?

We might see more Scott Podsednik-type players if they change the name.

In my opinion you'd have to be an idiot not to make the name changes to stadiums when companies are willing to dish out so much cash. Heck I'd change the name of it every year if you could make more money.

Because it sounds pretty nice when someone calls it "home of the 2005 world series champions."

It actually sounds a little worse every passing year.

True. It will sound better when it is "home of the perennial world series contender Chicago White Sox."

Default Forbes

While we're on the subject of the future, has anybody noticed that Forbes said the White Sox franchise is the 11th most valuable in MLB, worth $692 Million. Forbes also maintains that the White Sox are #14 in total revenue in MLB with $216 million. I think its quite obvious that the White Sox are a profitable team. Anybody who thinks the White Sox are not making money is misreading the situation. With the stadium and TV deals the White Sox have, it seems to me that the White Sox can't help but make money here in Chicago.

That's interesting. I thought they lost money in 2011 but apparently they still do okay...

I'm not sure that I believe any team in pro sports when they claim to lose money.

Doesn't the deal with Sprint effectively end US Cellular's presence in the Chicago area? If that's the case it would seem to be a colossal waste of marketing to name a park after a product the majority of it's customers cannot access.

It's akin to naming an east coast park "In N' Out Stadium".
