No kidding. Greinke is a good pitcher, but he's a No. 2 in a lot of rotations, including the Dodgers. I wouldn't have given him a contract like that, but the Dodgers are obviously going for all the marbles.

JB:
Today pitching is the most precious commodity in baseball. It's in short supply especially solid starters (and I'd put Greinke in that class), when someone gets to the open market you're going to pay through the nose for it. Lip |

I'm still not sure that they'll get into the playoffs, even with that payroll.

What's the NL look like next year? IMHO Giants = good Nationals = Good Reds = pretty good Cards = pretty good Braves = maybe? Phillies = maybe I'd put them below the Nationals and above the Reds. |

They still need a third baseman, but who doesn't? Gordon was also banged up most of 2012. I'm also not sold on Hanley Ramirez at SS. He can't play there anymore. They have the time and cash to add a couple pieces, but it'll be interesting to see how they fill those holes. They do have some starters to trade like Harang and Capuano. |

Greinke wasn't the only expensive starting pitcher inked by the Dodgers this weekend:

The thing is that their impending TV deal is currently undervalued by the reported $6 billion estimate.

If Reinsdorf sells the team, please let a hedge fund with billions buy them!

Even if that happens, I doubt the Sox will have the revenue to look like the Dodgers. |

Time Warner cable in SoCal is the one really pushing for the Dodgers rights to go along with the Lakers property which they already have.
The final winning bid will be astronomical in the range of 250 million per season to the franchise and that's before even one ticket has been sold. The rich get righer because they know how the game is played. I think the Sox rights come open in 2016....and I agree they might get an increase but nothing like, not even close to what the Rangers, Angels, Dodgers are getting and what the Yankees / Red Sox will get when they hit the market.
