Gavin is one of the strangest .500 pitchers I've seen over the years. He's a complete enigma. He'll have five or six starts in a row where he's just a monster, completely unhittable for even top offensive clubs. Then, he'll have five or six starts in a row where he throws batting practice. But, at the end of the day, when you look at the production and you look at the salary, he's good value as a back-of-the-rotation starter. We all just have to learn to live with the fact that he is who he is.

The best thing that the Sox have got going for them is flexibility. Rick can get creative and get good things out of this offseason.
I expect Thornton to be the first one dealt. Donnie might have made him expendable. He could either supplement a deal or get some prospects out of it. |
