No it doesn't. Alexei and Gordon deserve the consideration.

AJ as GG candidate is like saying Paulie can steal 50 bases.

What a joke.

He's was not even the best defensive catcher on the team.

Everyone knows the gold glove winner is the best offensive player at his position. This dates back to the Eric Chavez early 2000s era, with a dose of Derek Jeter.

Only Mauer had a higher OPS among regulars at C in the AL:

All are better catchers then A.J and have higher star power as Brian said. Gold Glove is usually the sexy pick. To be honest I would take any one of those 5 catchers over A.J right now.

AJ had a higher average and more homers than Napoli, Avila, Salty, Wieters and Santana. Mauer beat him on average but had 17 less homers. Did you bother to even try to check that statement before posting?

Don't back track. Sure A.J was there with them. But lacks the star power those others have and is not even close to being as good an all around catcher as them. Defensive stats don't tell the whole story of a catcher. I know the A.J apologists will get upset, but oh well they'll get over it.

Brian said AJ was one of the best offensive players at his position this year in the AL. Only Mauer was better. That doesn't mean I think he (AJ, not Brian) deserves the GG, I don't. But, as said, it's a good reason why he was named a finalist.

And I added on to what he said by simply stating there are better catchers than A.J in that list. Which there is. Chavez the last year he won it didn't deserve it Crede did. But Chavez is the sexy pick. Cano is the Sexy pick at 2nd Base even though IMO he's not the best defensive 2nd baseman this year. Russell Martin and or Matt Weiters will most likely get it due to name recognition and past history. Let's face it the Sox aren't or never will be a marquee team. For some reason the national media considers the Sox lower then the Pirates and Rockies. That is what really is going to hurt his chances IMO.

I don't know about never. They were pretty popular nationally in the early 90s, thanks to the Big Hurt.

I don't remember them ever being nationally revered in the 90's. I know Frank was highly regarded but the team itself even during the pennant chases no one outside Chicago seem to care. Part of that problem is in part the Sox seem to get buried by our own media. But you may be right though, I just don't remember.
