Default 2012 Playoff Contention Elimination Thread

It isn't a regular occurrence. But, one team has already been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention before September began. We can use this thread to track the teams as they get mathematically eliminated from playoff contention (both division and wild card races).

Teams eliminated from playoff contention:

Houston Astros

All NL teams so far. Maybe evidence that the AL is much tighter this year.

Or as the Ricketts would try to lead one to believe: year 3 and counting.

I'm looking forward to when "Detroit Tigers" appears on this list.

5 of those 8 teams either haven't ever won a World Series or haven't won one since 1948. I hope this season doesn't continue to be a microcosm of baseball history, or else we know who's going to be on top in the end.

I'm not too concerned about what went down in 1950 having a major implication on the 2012 season.
