Sox sign 33rd round pick Bryce Mosier, their first high schooler. Not sure if they went over slot, but they might be throwing some of the Gardeck money at some of the tougher prep signs.

Deadline for signing draft picks is tonight at 11 PM central time. One shouldn't expect any additional Sox signings though. They seem to be done.

That's really too bad. I was hoping Krist would sign. I liked what I saw from him in the College WS.
I am also disappointed by the lack of HS signings. I really liked the SOX approach in this draft with all the high schools draftees in the late rounds. But it appears they'll sign just a couple of them. I realize that some of these may be hard signs, but still...only 2 or 3? Pretty disappointing.

It will be interesting to see the spread on draft spending. Many teams are splurging because of the threat of hard slotting next year. Toronto is going nuts. Some expect them to be end up totaling near $15 million. Conversely, without doing any math I would expect the White Sox to end in the $3.5 to $5 million range somewhere near the bottom. |

The Pirates set a draft record by spending $17,005,700 on bonuses. Including money in big league deals, the Nationals spent $17,602,100. The White Sox spent the least of any team in the draft: $2,756,300 on bonuses.

Handy dandy chart showing slot sums of the first ten rounds and slot spent for each team. Results are unsurprising.

The Pirates have a solid record of developing good young players. They just trade them away before they reach their potential at the major league level.
