So to complete the update, Houston is denying the Chris Reed report. Still keeping an eye on it but important to note they are denying it

Man this is such a deep draft....the fact that guys like Kolten Wong, Danniel Norris and CJ Kron could have fallen to the Sox at 25, makes Dunn struggling so much even more painful.

23rd pick.

But yes, ridiculous class. The silver lining is that there will be plenty of legitimate talent at 47 this year. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if whoever is drafted jumps to the top of the White Sox prospect list. With Dayan's rookie status exhausted and no one else doing much of anything in the system, the top prospect is a blindfolded shot in the dark right now.

Absolutely.

There hasn't been one prospect that has definitively risen from the muck. There have been some intriguing performances from guys like Jose Martinez, Blanke, Petricka, Reed, as well as a whole bunch of fringe. Piecing together a top 20 prospect list at this point would be a depressing exercise. The Sox need depth at almost every position.

Ouch. Poor kid. This is horrible timing with the draft tomorrow.

Late 1st round Cuban sleeper?

http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/...-garcia-speck/

And to make it even more weird, his agent is claiming he isn't draft eligible and a free agent, while the league is saying the opposite. Quite odd.

From the office of the Commissioner:

Quote:
We understand that Gus Dominguez has contacted Clubs for the purpose of asserting that Onelki Garcia is not eligible for the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, which begins this evening. Consistent with the attached, which Joel Araujo sent to your attention on Saturday, June 4, please be advised that the Office of the Commissioner has determined that Garcia has established residency in the United States and is therefore subject to the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.

Based on the information we have received regarding Garcia’s residency status, it is our understanding that Garcia established residency and began working out in the United States in February 2011. We have repeatedly requested that Gus Dominguez provide us with documentary evidence supporting his claim that Garcia is a legal resident of a country other than the United States, but no such information has been provided to us. The Office of the Commissioner is, of course, unable to declare a player ineligible for the Rule 4 Draft based solely on the bare assertions of his representative that he is not a resident of the United States within the meaning of Major League Rule 4. As a result, the Office of the Commissioner has determined that Garcia is subject to the First-Year Player Draft.

Wow! Hultzen to Seattle.

Will Arizona nab Rendon? Or are they still on Bauer?

Pretty shocking that they didn't take Rendon. The Mariners system and the big league club desperately needs bats. A tandem of Rendon/Ackley/Smoak would have been really appealing.

Bauer is a fantastic pick and might help this year in the Bigs.
