Predicting the supplemental round is an absolute shot in the dark, but it's a useful read if one cares to get a feel for the talent that will be available at that point.

Jim Callis: They don't pick until No. 47, so there's not a lot of White Sox draft buzz. I could see them opting for a multitooled athlete who will sign for slot (which might be tough to find at No. 47) or a lefthanded pitcher. Maybe Chris Reed from Stanford?

Rendon falling to KC could be a steal. Many mixed opinions on him lately though. Whatever pitcher falls in their lap is fine too. Rumor has it they want a college arm that could quickly join a rotation alongside Duffy and Montgomery.

One thing is for sure: It's going to be a fun draft, with not much being certain regarding the top several picks (at least as of yet).

Pretty much. Cole, Rendon, Hultzen, Bundy, and Bauer are all legitimate possibilities at number 1 with the Pirates being linked to all of them at some point. It seems the first 3 listed are the most likely from current reports/speculation.

Cole falling to KC would be scary.

Yeah, just find whatever nondescript easy signer out of college that's from Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio, and that'll be the SOX's first pick.

[Am I imagining things, or do the SOX seem to draft/sign a lot of players from Indiana lately? Is the scout for the SOX that covers this area favored in some way by KW?]

They want a college pitcher who can come up in the next two years with the rest of their new core. The Royals, with or without Cole are going to be scary in 2013-14.

And don't take that the wrong way: The thought of them getting Cole is very scary.

Spot on about their intent. They need pitching in the immediate core. They have Duffy and will have Montgomery in the rotation in the near future, but Lamb is headed for TJ surgery. Odorizzi (Greinke trade) is dominating in High-A, but is far away. Adding in a Cole/Barnes/Gray/Bauer would bolster the rotation quickly.

Cleveland is looking to do the same thing. Masterson, White, & Pomeranz will likely be mainstays very soon. Grabbing whatever college arm falls to them in such a deep class will just add to a very impressive potential rotation.

And I mean scary in that Cole has the best stuff and highest ceiling of the top potential arms available. If he realizes that potential, lookout.

Lip had a source who criticized Laumann for picking a lot of players associated with his home area of Cincinnati. Mitchell played Legion ball there, Phegley and all those Indiana State guys are a short drive away, etc. I have no idea if there is anything to it, though.
