3rd pick in the draft in 2004. That's a Kenny guy. Might turn out to be a good guy to start 4-6 games before Peavy gets back and then slide into the pen.

He's also a former Royal, so that makes him even HARDER for KW to resist.

Judging by his numbers, he is a good guy to start games in Charlotte. Humber sucks.

Given the abject lack of anything worthwhile in the farm system, I support the signing of ANY warm body that may or may not help. Honestly, the organization could really use any kind of depth at pretty much every position, IMO.

Absent this type of signing, any significant injury in the starting rotation [beyond Peavy] means that we'll be treated to the joy of Lucas Harrell as a SP for an extended period of time.

Is Brandon McCarthy still available? Sign him up if he is!

Signed a one-year deal with Oakland last month. http://sbn.to/fuoWSG

Pretty much. They also have the potential to suppress Sale's service time, so I guess it isn't all bad.

I think Sale's going to close. He won't be in the minors.

Perhaps. I think that Sale will be 5th starter until Peavy is ready. From there I suspect AAA or to the bullpen. I'd rather see him in AAA though.

Humber had close to league average numbers last year with KC. Having a depth player like that in AAA isn't bad thing, especially since the upper system in thin in pitching.

"During 20072008 off-season, Santana was traded from the Twins to the New York Mets, for Carlos Gomez, Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra, and Kevin Mulvey."

The only reason I know his name. What a trade.

Who knows, perhaps Don Cooper previously spotted some flaw in Phil Humber's mechanics that was holding him back and asked the Sox to try and acquire him. That is apparently what happened with Matt Thornton: Cooper saw a flaw and told KW that if the Sox could ever acquire Thornton, he could straighten the problem out.

In any event, Cooper has had great success with a number of different pitchers who had struggled in other organizations: Esteban Loaiza, Thornton, Jose Contreras and Edwin Jackson, to name a few. Cooper also helped Sergio Santos learn to pitch at the major league level with little to no minor league experience as a pitcher.

I don't know if Humber will flourish under Cooper's tutelage but I hope so.
