I dig the early respect for Mitchell. How does he stack up to other guys from the Draft of 2009?

Shocked to see Danks and Viciedo off the list. Shocked, I say. Oh wait.

These lists are so volatile, it means nothing. Considering Viciedo was #61 last year without ever playing a game, that gives you an idea of what the list means and how easily it can change.

Exactly. That's why we should take this as nothing more than speculation. Like my old coach used to say "Potential is useless without results."

I think Viviedo has a better chance at being a major leagur contributer over the next two years than more than half that list. |

To be fair I guess Crow is technically a 2008 prospect, but he actually signed this time in09 so IDK

No. I've only seen video footage. My confidence comes from some scouting reports I've heard first hand.
Anyway, his bat speed and wrist strength are truly elite. He adjusted well in the second half of the season, and started to change his approach. He was actually a much beter hitter with two strikes, so it finally got through to him that he needed to shorten up his swing. The results were pretty encouraging. If he continues the progress, and sticks with the adjustments the Sox may give him a chance later in the year. That's how confident they are in his ability. I've heard you may see him at the big league level before Flowers. A lot of people are ready to write him off, but some of that is just ignoring the human element of the game and what he had to endure at such a young age. That's why these lists are so fickle. His talent at the plate is a lot better than many hitters on the list, but he was out of place at 20 years old in AA. That's a really tall order. His defense is never going to be much, and nobody really ever thought he would stay at third, so a lot of evaluators think he "lost value" when he was moved from third. |

Shocked we got 3 on the list personally, but good. I think the list shows the wide range of spec on our top prospects. Mitchell is all potential, could be great, a lot of work. Hudson, for some reason a ton of scouts think hes maxed out, hell be a fine mid to back end guy, never above a 3, we will see. Flowers has major talent, and major questions. Another well see.
Scheppers breaks my heart man. I was clamoring for him during the draft. He was such a steal, taking phlegley over him could be a bad mistake. Scheppers already soaring up the boards and scouts already question of Phlegley is ever going to hit with a wood bat.

Then those scouts have never heard of the Cape Cod League.

To be honest I don't know much about how he looked after the draft except some blips he looked terrible, but its not like other kids. I just know Scheppers may haunt us in the same way Porcello might. The only upside on that was Poreda was just enough to headline the peavy deal
