I can't recall the last time we had this many guys in the AFL.

I've been touting Mabee for quite some time and have been watching him closely. I think he has a lot of potential. The Sox obviously think highly of him as well.

He came out of Morehead State, the same place as Jon Rauch, and he has done very well at every level and advanced quickly. He was drafted in 2008 in the 19th round. He has a good fastball and sinker and has the potential to make it to the Sox as a reliever. I saw him pitch when Kanny came to Lexington.

I also would not give up on Rasner too fast. He is young (22) and still a bit raw. He came along as part of the Danks and Masset deal and the Sox were higher on him than Masset, as I recall. He has been starting most of the time, but I think his future is as a reliever.

Does anyone know if Viciedo will be ready to compete for a spot on the 2010 major league roster?

What about any other minor leaguers? Is there anyone to keep an eye on next spring as possibly making the Sox roster in 2010?

Hudson and Flowers are the closest, and they probably would be a callup at some point as opposed to breaking camp with the team. I think 2011 is the earliest one could expect to see Dayan.

I'd think Dayan will get a good long look upcoming in Spring Training, since we're on the hook for $5M for him. Obviously he needs more AAA time to learn a position and increase overall baseball skills, but his bat might be advanced enough to earn a roster spot, especially with a good showing in the AFL.

But we'll see who else Kenny adds and brings back to the MLB roster before making that assumption. He could potentially be a part-time DH for us in 2010, but he'd have to show something to get that far in less time.

Danks is tearing up the AFL. .424 BA, .513 OBP, 1.210 OPS, and only 3 K through 9 games.

That is good to see!

Maybe he'll be able to use the AFL to springboard him into everyday service in the Majors. I don't think he'll be ready to go in 2010, but I also didn't think Bacon would be ready in 2009.

I'd like to see more of a body of work than 9 AFL games for Danks before we anoint him as the next coming.

OTOH, after seeing the BEARS crap their pants yesterday, any good news out of the AFL is welcome...
