What's the story on Morel? The guy appears to have ZERO power.

146 ABs for Brent Morel and 0 HR so far. In fact, he has 4 XBH total. Does anyone know anything about this guy? Does he have any projectable power or is this his game?
EDIT: Might as well add some substance to this post b/c ... and I have the same question. It now seems Chris Getz has to be considered with Poreda as among the best prospects in the system. Who else is up there? Brandon Allen? Last edited by Mr. White Sox; 08-04-2008 at 11:16 PM. |

That is the second consecutive relief appearance for Derek Rodriguez, in which he pitched several innings. Last night he pitched 3.1 innings, as the closer. The previous appearance he went 4 innings. Both efforts were outstanding.
Could they be trying to get him stretched out a little for longer relief? Could this be a precursor to his getting called up? |

Personally, I am skeptical of whether or not his AAA HR power is sustainable/translatable to the next level. Further I don't care if he ends up hitting a single HR for the Sox. If Getz turns out to be a more rangy, better baserunning version of Ryan Theriot, I''ll be happy and so will the Sox .

Here are a few paragraphs from the Cal Poly site about Morel when he was drafted by the Sox. He did not appear to have much power in college. He had 8 homeruns in 239 ABs his junior year.
Morel was Cal Poly’s top hitter this season with a .368 average and the Big West leader in both RBIs (60) and total bases (140). The first-team All-Big West Conference selection finished the year No. 4 on the Cal Poly charts in hits (88), sixth in RBIs (60), ninth in at-bats (239) and 10th in doubles (18) for a single season and seventh in career doubles (40) and 10th in career RBIs (111). Morel produced 18 doubles, five triples and eight home runs. He hit two homers against Fresno State on April 9 and hit his first career grand slam to snap a 7-7 tie in the 10th inning of the season finale May 25 at UC Riverside. |

what about Bourgeios ... every time I check in here he seems to have a couple hits the night before ... any hope for him?

Maybe, just maybe as a utility guy for the Sox, but it seems Getz has taken over that spot on the depth chart for the time being. If he doesn't end up on the major league roster with the Sox, I have a feeling he'll get a shot with another team.
