What Happened to Gio?
I was just looking at his AAA stats with Sacramento in the A's organization.
4-6 with a 5.24 ERA and only 90 SO in 87 IP. Has he had some injuries this year or something? Or is he just having trouble adjusting to his new organization again? I remember when he was with the Phillies he had trouble, but when he came back to the White Sox he was almost lights out again.

Without knowing anything about the situation, my guess is either he lost his control and/or people aren't swinging at his big swooping curveball anymore when it's not a strike. If that's the case, his fastball isn't going to blow them away.

Gio has been great and horrible in alternating starts. They do not know why.

Gio and KW have a secret pact.
Gio pitches to his potential in the Sox organization and his value increases. Then KW deals him when his value is high. Then he sucks for his new organization. Then KW gets him back when his value is low. Then he has another good season and his value rebounds, and KW trades him again while his value is high. It's an ingenious plan, really.

not many pitchers who are curve first fastball second do very well in the pros. The knock on Gio was always he could dominate a AA hitter with a big hook, but how would an advanced hitter fair against him. I guess we are seeing that.

He's a 22 year old who flew through the minors. Writing his obit is rather premature. Also, he has an above average fastball guys. His Achilles heel has been his command because in terms of "stuff" he's a front-line pitcher.
