Would have liked to see a duck snort just behind the infield, but a seeing-eye single works as well.

I don't know where you get "seeing-eye single" out of that hit. The Angels positioned an outfielder as a fifth infielder, tightening up the holes, and Garcia still shot it through the left side.

I think it was the May 12 one-run loss in Oakland that ended with Garia striking out to end what the three run rally that fell short which left WSI collectively complaining that Garcia had no business hitting with the game on the line. Tonight he put together a good at bat to decide the game.

Danks has looked good for a number of starts now this season. His changeup has more depth than I remember him having in previous years. I think this is a good time to try and deal him, obviously with us picking up a portion of his remaining contract.

Overcame poor bullpen management. Love it.

We would all have pulled Danks earlier. We also would have let Sierra hit. That's why we have WSI.

Exactly.

Serious question: which player will Danks fetch that will justify enlarging the hole in the starting rotation?

Left handed pitching has value and if we pick up 6-7 mil per year on his remaining contract they should be able to turn Danks for a decent prospect like a team's # 3-8 prospect (hopefully C, OF, or RHP).

I don't have the confidence that Danks can continue this. I would like to sell high on him and get what we can, he is not a part of the future. Plus we have too many lefties.

Sure, if it's a #3 from a top 6 farm system.
Does he bring more or less than Peavy?
The other thing about Danks is his weakness is giving up the homer. To a team in a more pitchers' park, he has even more value.

If we trade him that leaves us with 2 starters.Rodon is not a sure thing for next year so I can't see them giving him away for a prospect unless he is MLB ready.

Why is it a bad thing to have three lefties in the rotation? Can anyone give me a good reason why that is a detriment? I think it's a bunch of bull**** invented by idiots in the Chicago media.

Danks, Sale and Quintana pitched consecutively over the weekend against the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays. All three pitchers won. Was it an advantage for Toronto to face three lefties in a row? Doesn't seem like it.

I wouldn't trade Danks. The Sox only have three legitimate starting pitchers in their organization. I understand he isn't part of the future, but in the meantime somebody needs to pitch. It might as well be Danks. And given his salary, I don't think he would fetch the Sox a bounty of elite prospects anyway. Trading him would be nothing more than a salary dump, IMO.

I agree with JB; trading Danks would be a salary dump. We won't get a top-notch MLB-ready prospect (like Danks was when we acquired him for McCarthy) by trading Danks.

Salary dumps are only useful if the money goes to something else - preferably something better, but at least something equally good.

The Sox have proven that they approach payroll as a year-to-year proposition. Saving money in 2014 and 2015 does not "bank it" to spend in later years.

So, can the Sox improve their rotation in 2015 (and beyond) by dumping his salary this year? I doubt it.
