Default Ozzie Smith wants your signature

Ozzie Smith trying to make MLB Opening Day into a national holiday.

A petition, which launched Tuesday on WhiteHouse.gov, requires 100,000 signatures within 30 days in order to advance to an administration review and response.

Kind of? How about 100% unworkable. When is Opening Day? This year there are three "Opening Days" on the calendar.

Ozzie hasn't been the same since he fell into the Springfield Mystery Spot.

No dumber than the movement to place President's Day on the calendar as the first Monday after the SuperBowl because too many people call in sick that day.

I would assume, if there was any substance to this, that MLB could adjust the schedule in future years to place all the games on the same day. Overseas games wouldn't count towards the US national holiday.

It's a cute idea, but the average American worker is unproductive enough as it is, so I don't personally advocate more PTO.

I would imagine the amount of people who are unable to be productive because of the Super Bowl is vastly larger than the number of people who even watch opening day games.

Either way, I agree, it's a dumb idea.

As well as the only nation in the world that doesn't require paid vacation time, so more holidays would be awesome.

It's an amusing idea, but one of the other traditions involving Opening Day is playing hooky to go to the game.
