Default Last Night Game at Old Comiskey

M. Jeff says he'll be at the Sox opener in New Comiskey @4:40 of this vid. I wonder if he was, or if the Bulls were on the road that day.

Can't make out the song when they ran onto the field @ 5:25.

Ken Griffey Sr. started this game, but not Jr. Those Sox pinstripe unis looked very much at home in that old park.

After Hawk was fired as GM in 1986 he went to work for the Yankees and also did game of the week broadcasts. He returned to the Sox in 1991 in time for the new park and has been here ever since.

He was back in 1990, somewhere on YouTube there is a commercial of him and Paciorek saying goodbye to Old Comiskey.

MLB has been somewhat slow in pulling this users videos off of YouTube, so maybe they're easing off on that policy (or hopefully posting what copies they have of these games on YouTube).

Also, this was the very first baseball game I ever went to!

Hawk came back in 1990. Hawk and Paciorek did the Sportschannel broadcasts that year. Jim Durham and Paciorek did the WGN broadcasts.

Damn near cried watching that opening montage, and I was all of 6 at the time.

I wasn't there that night, but I was that summer:

Cool to see them using the diamond sock logo as the main logo a couple of times instead of the stylized S-O-X.

I stand corrected, when I looked up the TV broadcast history of the Sox I only looked at the WGN list, not the cable list.

Now that's the Sammy Sosa I remember. Fast, strong arm, some power, too aggressive at the plate.

If someone would have told me in 1990 that in a 4 year period Sosa would hit 243 homeruns, I would have assumed it was some sort of wiffel ball league.

I have no memory at all of Eric King, and I went to the park several times that year. His transaction page is the most interesting: acquired in 1989 from Detroit for Ken Williams, then traded to Cleveland two months after this game for Cory Snyder. Ugh.

Can't make out the song when they ran onto the field @ 5:25. Didn't sound like Thunderstruck.

The album that Thunderstruck appeared on was released the same week that game was played.

Watching this stuff is always very bittersweet for me. I was born in '87, so I attended several games at Old Comiskey, including in 1990, but my memories are very hazy. I wish like hell that I had a time machine...

I was at this game. That place was my summer home. Bittersweet night....
