Default Who is the closer for '14?

Matt Lindstrom? I liked the trade of Reed but do we have anybody to step into the role of closer? Closer by committee until somebody emerges? Make another trader or sign a closer?

Lindstrom, Jones, and Webb appear to be the in-house front-runners, though there's a couple of intriguing guys still available in FA with closer experience.

So, it's December and probably a bit too early to speculate.

There will be no trade or signing, just an internal competition among Jones, Lindstrom and perhaps Webb.

IMO, whatever dollars they have left to spend on the bullpen will be used to acquire some left-handed help.

Probably Jones. I don't see them spending big money on a proven closer. Bullpen has some good arms; one of them will emerge

I vote Jones for first chance.

Ill say Lindstrom. If he does well he will have worth at the trade dead line. I really dont think Lindstrom fits in the Sox long term plans.

Bingo. Get his stock up and move him in July.

9th is lefty heavy give it to Downs.

Other wise, Nate Jones
Big K rate, keeps the ball in the park, just needs to now think and just throw

Default Still searching

It ain't Lindstrom.
Probably better learning this early
However wish we had signed an accomplished closer in offseason. Might have to give Webb a chance. But if he fails we have no one.

I still haven't seen a better choice the Lindstrom.
Cleto and Webb are pitching better, but are used for multiple innings and getting out of jams. Lindstrom is still pitching 3rd best.

Javy Guerra was a sharp waiver claim; might see him soon.

He's off to a good start in AAA.

I think Webb will ultimately be the closer. Seems like Reinzo could pretty easily take Webb's role as longman in the bullpen. Of course, you'd probably have to get rid of Belisario, who is getting paid $3 million this season and will probably get several more weeks to sort things out.

At 3M think months not weeks.

I think Rienzo would be next man up to replace either Paulino or Johnson in the rotation.

Sickening as it sounds, Axelord might be up here soon to take the long man role if those two starters continue to fail to put out quality starts.

Bellisario came into camp really late, so he may not be ready. I still like his stuff and he has a decent track record. It's frustrating right now, but I think he'll turn it around.

I think Webb is the closer by the end of May and Lindstrom would be better in the set up role.

And we may have to bite the bullet and be lefty-short. Downs and Veal aren't getting anyone out. But I'm sure they'll wait a while before they do that.
