I wonder other than Sale and Abreu, who the other two are? Avisail is probably one of them... |

Nate Jones would be on my untouchable list too.

No reliever should ever be untouchable.

Lol!
Throwing Quintana in the untouchable mix has got to be nothing more than the Sox trying to squeeze every last ounce of leverage they could get out of their players for a potential trade scenario. Right? He's a nice low-cost pitcher, but untouchable? Give me a break. Anyway, that is a solid young core and does give me hope. |

I figured 3 of the 4 would be Sale, Garcia, and Abreu, but I am surprised to see Quintana's name added to the bunch. But that's OK, frankly, I was worried the 4th would be like Beckham or something since this organization seems to seriously overvalue his worth. I'm sure the guy is a nice guy in the clubhouse, but it doesn't appear he has David Eckstein-like intangibles that nullify his wretched performance on the field.

That sig of yours doesn't get old.
That's a decent list to have. When you're trying to rebuild, you need effective, low cost guys like Quintana. Bullpens vary from year to year, so I'm okay with Reed being up for trade. |

So, that's four reportedly untouchable players plus I count two pretty much untradeable players (Dunn and Danks).

Oh, they're tradeable...if we fork out a lot of $$$ to do it. My hope is that Dunn can be dealt at the deadline because someone needs a power bat for a playoff push/run.

Very possible but he probably won't bring anything back in return. It will most likely save some cash for a few months. |

Just read that st. louis post-dispatch article which mentions the cards expressing interest in Alexei at the 2013 trade deadline. Alexei's offense has been pretty bad the last couple years and he's now 32. I think you have to capitalize on the slick fielding reputation and 'big' name recognition alexei can still get you and get what you can for him. Stock up the farm system, clear some salary, plug in Sanchez, and go get Granderson/Beltran. If the Sox are done making any other significant moves I don't see them busting out of the cellar they put themselves in last year, even with a full year of Abreu and Garcia. It's going to take more than that with the knuckleheads we got stepping up to the plate (Viciedo, Beckham, Alexei). If not Beltran or Granderson, who else could get us that 3rd power bat that we desperately need? If not now, what about a couple a years from now? Who will be available that the Sox could realistically land?
That's my stupid GM for a day scenario anyway. Anyone else feel like hanging on to alexei at this point is kinda 'delusional'? |

Look at the tradeables, most with very little value and many with no tangible value. All they can do is to be master magicians at this stage and pull some rabbits out of a hat.
