Default Leury Garcia is the PTBNL from Texas

The player to be named later in a deal that sent Alex Rios to Texas on Friday, Garcia, 22, has been assigned to Triple-A Charlotte.

Dan Hayes
White Sox are going to give Leury Garcia a little more time in Triple-A. Sounds like certainty he'd be up by Sept. 1, before if needed.

Seems like a fair deal for both sides. I read Leury has a long swing, but I like his upside and versatility. He's still young, too. It's just good to see this money can now go to better use.

He is a true 80 with the speed tool. Someone teach this kid to bunt and he might have a career. That kind of speed creates havoc and is contagious. The lack of energy on this team is so noticable, this kid, if he can use that speed, could be a microwave.

What would be a fair comparison Dee Gordon?

I don't think that's all that close a comparison because Gordon doesn't have a strong arm like Garcia does afaik. Plus Dee Gordon can't get on base to save his life (not that Garcia doesn't have his own probs there) and is seriously wafer thin with zero power while Garcia again has a bit of an edge on him there. Also, Leury is a switch hitter while Gordon is just a terrible lefty.

Someone here linked to an article that was comparing him to Chone Figgins.

That play CSN showed of him coming over from a shifted shortstop to scoop a dribbler to 1st base in time for the out is really impressive.

Poor man's Furcal. I'll take it.

Very poor man's Furcal to be totally fair, but he's still a pretty intriguing prospect.
