I recently saw this on Amazon and decided to order it.
http://www.amazon.com/This-Week-Base...ek+in+baseball I loved this show when I was growing up. Hopefully they decide to release more seasons. I am halfway through this dvd set, and seeing the old video clips is amazing. They have covered both the '77 Sox and Cubs through the July episodes. Both teams were leading their divisions at the time. There are a lot peculiar things I have noticed too. The Red Sox and Yankees played a June series at Yankee Stadium, and the place was basically empty, which is confirmation that attendance problems existed in the late 70s. Here's a weird thing I have noticed about the Wrigley Field clips. They have a guy sitting behind the catcher. I don't recall ever seeing this before, and I have no idea what his purpose was. It does not look like they have a temporary screen in front of him, so not only does it look dangerous, but I imagine he would possibly be in the way of any passed balls or wild pitches. |

I don't recall someone sitting behind home plate either, but I like his look, very professional.
As for the attendance issues, when you look at the numbers on baseball-reference.com for the Yankees vs. Red Sox in June of 1977 game 1 was 54,940, game 2 was 47,481 and game 3 was 55,039. Jerry Reinsdorf would love to have those type of attendance problems. |

Yankee attendance issues started in the late 80's through around 92. That's the time period when Steinbrenner talked about leaving the Bronx for a new stadium in Jersey.

It's also the time period during which the team was terrible, and Steinbrenner was banned from baseball.

What the coverage like on the Sox / Twins series in early July and the Sox / Royals series in late July?

So far, they've covered the Sox home series against the Yankees (June 3-5, thank you Retrosheet) and the Sox at the old Metropolitan Stadium (June 25-26). In the 2nd Twins game, the Twins scored 19 runs. Rod Carew was on fire at that point. I had never seen video of the old Met though. It looks similar to Exhibition Stadium in Toronto.

Brian:
Wait till you see how Comiskey Park was rocking against Minnesota and Kansas City. Was there for the Sunday DH in early July against the Twins, it was electric. I may buy this just to get the video of the Sox. Lip |

Lip-
Just watched the 6th episode which highlighted a four game sweep of the Twins at home. Jim Spencer had a slam and eight rbis in one of the games. Zisk homered to left, and they showed tons of signs over the lf wall... "pitch to zisk at your risk" and "made to orta". Good stuff indeed. |
