As a Catcher he puts up very good numbers -- last year notwithstanding. However, as a 1B his numbers won't cut it. A terrible signing, considering the money, if he's to be the everyday 1B and not Catch.

Not really. The market is so thin and they don't have a ton of prospects. But they have cash. LaRoche gave no indication that he wanted to play there, and he was the lead for that position.

They could've done worse than Napoli for three years.
