Default Sox staff changes
Sox add Bobby Thigpen as bullpen coach and Daryl Boston as first base coach. Baines moves to assistant hitting coach.

Good moves. Thigpen knows most of our pitchers already and Baines would probably be better utilized as a hitting coach/bench coach hybrid.

I've always maintained that a good first base coach should at least have been an average base stealer in his career.

I like this. Agreed that Baines will be better used elsewhere. Love him, love that he's with us, but first base seemed an odd fit.

Also like that two more Sox names are back in the fold. This is our family.

EDIT: Is there a source on this? Baggage claim?

I disagree. Both moves look like organizational welfare for former players. It sure would be nice to see us hire qualified people from outside the organization.

Thigpen as a BP coach looks like a very reasonable move. Isn't Daryl Boston a Kenny Williams guy? Even if that is the case, I don't have a problem with this Boston as the new first base coach.

If these are moves that Robin wants, meh.
