The more we do these every year, the more I am getting annoyed by how poor we have been since then.

It's sad to me that I remember one event every year just because it has not even come close to getting better since.

I don't necessarily think poor is the right word for it. "Average" might be a better description...

Not to get all Bill James on here, but it seems like the regression to the mean always happens the next season. Hopefully the Sox can keep a player or two, Jake's gone I believe anyway, maybe add a pitcher or two, and take advantage of the division for once and be in contention again next year.

It's funny how easy they made it look and yet how hard it is too actually get there and win it. It's so much luck and circumstance as much as talent. The years since have taught us nothing if not how hard it is too get to that level. you got 30 some teams all with the idea to get there . The key for another title run is getting this team in the position where it makes the playoffs most years.

The Sox in their long history have a lifetime .506 winning percentage which is something to be proud of as a fan but it's still hard to believe that the Sox have never made the post-season 2 years in a row.

Great post, Little Nell. I enjoy reading your perspective here on WSI. It's great that you've seen the Sox in two World Series (albeit 46 years apart). That 2005 White Sox team was a very special group of grinders and every time I watch my WS DVD's, I still get goosebumps!

I also find that stat about the Sox not making the playoffs two years in a row unbelievable, although I know it is true. Here's hoping that stat changes starting in 2013!

I didnt see any eveidence of a "pity party". Some people reflecting on a great time in their life, others wanting to experience it again.

When I see a team like the Giants win it all after losing their closer and their best hitter it shows that anything is possible.

Even the Cards were a surprise in 2011.
