I'm not opposed to Buehrle having his number retired... but before that happens, there's a much better and more deserving White Sox pitcher: Urban "Red" Faber.

His #18 should have been retired a long time ago. Faber played his entire 20-year career with the Sox, compiling a record of 254-213, and a career ERA of 3.15. Granted, he played in the Dead Ball Era, but that's still pretty darn impressive. He also won three games in the 1917 World Series.

Think about this: Here's a Hall of Fame pitcher who played his entire career for the White Sox, and his number isn't retired. There ought to be a groundswell of support for Faber.

If Buehrle is deserving of number retirement, then Faber absolutely is.

Faber was on the ticket for last night's game and I made the same remark to my daughter after seeing on the ticket that he played 20 years for the Sox and was in the Hall of Fame.
