I never liked the idea of slotting arms by numbers, like #3 or #5. Get the best 5 pitchers you can get with the resources you have available. Even if we call Giolito a #1 now, does that mean we should set our sights lower on a free agent acquisition? What if we got MadBum and Giolito, and the Mets want to cash in on Thor before he loses more value? Do we pass up the chance to go get him because of the presence of other #1s on the roster?

The Astros had a need for starting pitching at the deadline. Even though Verlander and Cole were already there, they went for the jugular and got the best arm on the market. The White Sox should do the same whenever possible.

There is no such thing as having too much quality pitching.
