I'm surprised, but I like the move. The money is not much. It's not a long-term commitment, and it's not going to tie the Sox's hands to spend in other areas.

You look at the defensive metrics, Castillo was far superior to both Smith and Narvaez in every area last year. And let's be honest, neither Smith nor Narvaez is a long-term answer at the position. Castillo is a stopgap, but he could be a pretty good stopgap, and like others have said, I want the young pitchers working with a veteran catcher as they come up.
