Some people mentioned Jim Spencer on there posts. Spencer was a Gold Glove Winner first baseman. He won his Gold Glove with the Angels. He was so good defensively that White Sox manager Paul Richards told Spencer after the 1976 season that he was as good a defensive first baseman as he had seen in his 40 year baseball career. Paul Richards wasn't known to say many positive things about the 1976 White Sox team, His comments about Spencer were one of the few nice things he said about the 1976 White Sox. Spencer was an average hitter and a tremendous defensive first baseman. Unfortunately Bill Veeck sold him to the Yankees after the 1977 season. Another one of the dreadful moves made by Bill Veeck.
