This kind of argument drives me crazy, really. You can't JUST "develop young players", just like you can't JUST sign free agents. It's even more true than ever, because the current CBA has restrictions on how much teams can spend on the draft and on signing international players (there's an exception for professional Cubans over age 23). So, it's NOT POSSIBLE that the Sox could have just spent that 68 million on young players. It's this move, or a major league player, or doing nothing with it.
