According to the article linked in OP, Guthrie had a 3.16 ERA over 14 starts after leaving the Rockies last year. Eight million a year is basically the going rate for a veteran #4 at best pitcher, which is probably what he has been over his career. Not just anybody can go out and pitch 200 innings at league average ERA.
